1
Stop the Bleed
Hemorrhage Control Training
This internationally recognized course is designed to reduce death from severe blood loss during emergencies like active shooter incidents or terrorist attacks (but is applicable to any massive bleeding event) It's administered by the American College of Surgeons- Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT).

Learn essential life-saving techniques including:

-
Applying direct pressure
-
Using hemostatic (clotting) agents
-
Proper application of tourniquets, including the CAT device (licenced for sale Canada-wide by Edmonton-based CTOMS)

CCEMS is authorized to deliver this course and issue ACS-COT certificates.
2
Narcan Administration
Opioid Recognition and Response

CCEMS created this course specifically for the City of Edmonton to provide awareness, risk mitigation in the light of opioids, and the necessary steps to self-care and buddy-care when confronted with, or potentially exposed to, opioids -primarily synthetic opioids such as Fentanyl.

The course focuses on creating awareness of the risks of opioid exposure in arrests, and in the resuscitation of overdose victims. PPE is discussed in detail. Use of nasal Narcan is the primary focus when it comes to resuscitation, in combination with the recovery position, use of bag-valve-mask devices, and CPR.
CCEMS will issue a certificate for successful completion of this course.
Who Needs Tactical First Aid Training?
Emergencies don't wait for paramedics. Would you know how to stop a massive bleed or save someone from an overdose?

Our Tactical First Aid Course teaches life-saving skills in just one day. It’s designed for security professionals, parents, teachers, and everyday Albertans who want to be ready when it matters most.
Massive bleeds and opioid overdoses are two of the deadliest emergencies today, and they’re becoming increasingly common. Whether you work in security, enforcement, a high-risk public-facing role- or you simply want to be prepared as a civilian, the skills you’ll learn in this course will help you respond competently and with confidence.

Why Narcan Administration?
-
Since 2016, over 52,500 Canadians have died from opioid-related harms.

-
In 2024 alone, more than 1,800 Albertans died from opioid toxicity.

-
Nearly 199,000 emergency visits and 245,000 EMS calls for overdoses.

Opioid overdose can happen through delayed recognition of symptoms, or accidental exposure in public areas like washrooms, transit stations, or parks. It may also occur during high-risk interventions such as arrests or searches.

Why Stop the Bleed?
-
Uncontrolled bleeding causes 30–40% of trauma deaths — often before patients reach the hospital.
-
That’s more than 60,000 fatalities each year in North America.
-
Most deaths occur within just 2 hours of injury.
-

Common causes of massive bleeds include gunshot or stab wounds, workplace accidents, car crashes, violent assaults, and more. These incidents can happen at any time, and are the most preventable causes of death when someone trained is nearby.
When seconds count, the ability to stop a bleed or reverse an overdose can mean the difference between life and death — even before EMS arrives.

What our students say
"I would just like to say I had an awesome time yesterday taking your new Tactical First-Aid course. This training could really be the difference between life or death for us. The life saving knowledge I walked away with was incredible. I wish this training was a part of Armed Guard training but I have it now because of you guys! Thank you.

I definitely think this training (with the tourniquets and wound care) would have great value in the occupation, because the possible dangers that can come with the job are very real. It was a pleasure to have participated in this course, I'm glad you guys combined both parts."
